Green Impact

Green Impact is an award-winning programme that breaks down the often complex world of sustainability into practical steps that staff and students can take to improve sustainable practice within their building, department or college. We have tailored the online toolkit to align with the University’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

So, whether you are part of a small team, or work on a complex site, everyone in the University can help to make a difference. Why not start your Green Impact journey today?

Create or join a team. Green Impact is open to teams of all sizes: any building, department, laboratory or college – whatever suits you. You can search to find existing teams in your area or form a new one. Encourage your colleagues and peers to join in!

Head to the Oxford University page on the Green Impact website. We recommend bookmarking this page for easy access. Click ‘Register’ at the bottom of the log-in box and fill in your details. Please use your Oxford email address to create your new account. Check your email for a verification message and activate your new account. Once activated, head to the ‘toolkit’ section to create or join your team.

Access the toolkit and begin completing actions! Once an action is complete upload your comments/evidence and click ‘done.’ You can search for actions by theme, ‘star’ your favourites and assign them to members of your team.

Marked actions will appear on your dashboard, as well as the points you have towards your award level (Bronze, Silver , Gold, Beyond Gold).

Green Impact actions align with the Environmental Sustainability Strategy. The workbook includes actions relating to our ten priorities identified in the Strategy.

Green Impact is flexible. It can adapt to the size or complexity of your site and how much time your team can dedicate to the programme. You can choose actions that suit your specific goals with opportunities for custom work and projects. Green Impact is voluntary, fun and has no fixed commitment.

The outputs are real and result in tangible positive changes.

There’s a huge variety of activities: Some teams carry out a number of quick, small actions. Others prefer to take on longer term projects focusing on one or two areas.

The Green Impact teams receive a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Beyond Gold award as part of their accreditation.

Green Impact achievements and awards are celebrated as part of the University’s annual celebratory Sustainability Showcase event.

Small is beautiful too! The actions you commit to don’t need to be giant sized. For instance, if all staff and students at the University saved just one piece of paper a day over the three eight week terms, we would save 8,215 reams of paper a year.

Whether you are a staff or student, we hope you will really enjoy your Green Impact experience. The scheme is a wonderful way to meet new people, and find out more about environmental issues at the University while playing a practical part in making a difference.

Green Impact also provides training for students to become Green Impact auditors and project assistants. Both opportunities enable you to bring about change today while equipping you with valuable employability skills and experience for tomorrow. Green Impact is a fantastic way to enhance your CV and potentially kick-start a career in the sustainability sector.
