The Sustainable Students Oxford (SSO) is a programme offering action and engagement opportunities, support for students interested in taking their own initiative, training and networking.
The University of Oxford is committed to reaching net zero carbon and biodiversity net gain by 2035. To reach these ambitious targets, we need everyone on board.
With over 26,000 students in the University, our daily behaviours make a big difference to the environment. The scheme is open to all students empowering a variety of environmental action from engaging with existing campaigns in Oxford, to setting up your own projects.

How to get involved and what to expect
- Take action. Join your college or departmental Green Impact team or work with staff to establish one!
- Apply to become a Green Impact Project Assistant working with one of the University’s Green Impact teams or initiate your own environmental sustainability project. Receive training for project management and gain experience.
- Access environmental sustainability networking and training opportunities.
- Receive IEMA approved training for environmental auditing and conduct year end audits for Green Impact team submissions.
- Meet like-minded students passionate about environmental sustainability.
- Gain transferrable experience for motivating change.
