Green Impact and Student Switch Off

Our two flagship programmes to engage students are Green Impact and Student Switch Off. Both provide practical ways to develop your knowledge of a broad range of environmental issues with a healthy dose of fun and competition thrown in.

They also give students valuable training opportunities to develop communication, leadership and motivation skills as well as acquiring skills in environmental auditing.

With training you could become:

Green Impact

Our flagship programme to engage staff is Green Impact, which provides practical ways to develop your knowledge of a broad range of environmental issues with a healthy dose of fun and competition thrown in.

It also gives staff valuable training opportunities to develop communication, leadership and motivation skills as well as acquiring skills in environmental auditing. With training you could become a Project Assistant or Auditor on the Green Impact programme, or run your own team.

Environmental Risk and Legal Compliance

This is a half-day course. Training is run on demand so please register your interest.

It is open to all current staff with particular relevance to facilities/building mangers, administrators or similar roles.

This half day information course aims to give attendees insights and information regarding environmental risk and legal compliance.

It will enable you to:

  • identify and minimise environmental risks
  • be aware of and understand legal compliance requirements within the University context
  • have an understanding of the tools available to assist.

The course is free to attend. We set a maximum number of 10 attendees to allow for discussions around specific site issues.

The Sustainability Skills Bank supports positive sustainable actions and matches the amazing skills of students with small sustainable projects.

In this way staff and students can learn from each other, gain experience and get tasks done. It really is a ‘win-win’ for all involved.

If you’re a student who would like to learn new skills, or a staff member who needs help with a project (or would like to engage a student in your work), look no further.

Find out more here about the Sustainability Skills Bank via the University internal Sharepoint page.

The University’s Environmental Sustainability team offers various sustainability-focused internships. The team and Green Impact teams also make use of micro-internships and student consultancy services. You can submit an application for any of these initiatives through the Careers Service.

To hear about opportunities as they arise sign up to the student mailing list via sustainability@admin.ox.ac.uk.

If you are working on a project, like a dissertation as part of your study or role at the University, we may be able to help. We could add real value to your project by sharing our knowledge and data.

Are you interested in partnering with us? If ‘yes’, please contact us at sustainability@admin.ox.ac.uk.
