Back in November, we asked staff and students to share their views on environmental sustainability at Oxford. We were really pleased to see that over 70% of respondents noticed positive changes towards more sustainable practices, and a similar number said they were already taking action themselves. That’s a strong signal of the care and commitment that exists across our community.
We often hear that every small step counts, and it does. But we’re at a point in time that requires working together on bigger, more impactful actions to achieve our goals.
That’s where Green Action Week comes in. We’d love to encourage teams and departments to take a bit of time to talk about their top five actions for environmental sustainability. These will look different across departments and roles but might include things like challenging our default purchasing products or suppliers, reducing unnecessary travel, choosing plant-based catering for events, switching to recycled or lower-impact materials, or anything else relevant to our everyday ways of working.
By sharing ideas and focusing on what can have the greatest impact, we can support each other and keep building sustainability into our daily work and study. Green Action Week is a chance to start those conversations and to turn good intentions into positive impactful action.
