Depending on their age and model, they can use up to four times as much energy as an average UK household!
In January 2019, as part of our Carbon Reduction Programme, the Environmental Sustainability team began to replace the least energy-efficient ULTs. Since then, we’ve replaced 102 freezers, saving the University 783,501 kWh/year – which equates to an annual saving of £123,511 and 166 tCO2e.
Funding is still available, so please get in touch to find out more if your department wants to replace an old, inefficient freezer.
