Oxford signs Concordat for Environmental Sustainability

The University joins leading UK research funders and higher education institutions in a shared commitment to make research and innovation more sustainable.

The concordat aligns with the University’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy, adopted by Council in March 2021, and its goals to achieve net zero carbon emissions and biodiversity net gain by 2035.

By signing the Concordat, we commit to taking action in six areas of research practice:

  • leadership and system change,
  • sustainable Infrastructure,
  • sustainable procurement,
  • emissions from business and academic travel,
  • collaborations and partnerships,
  • environmental impact and reporting data.

Our support for the Concordat reflects a commitment to embedding sustainable practices in our research and innovation activities, and to developing them too. Over the past year, engagement from across the Oxford research community — researchers and professional support colleagues alike — has been tremendous and founded on collaboration and collective action. Tanita Casci, Interim Director of Research Services

The Oxford University community and leaders in sustainable research will come together on 16 December for the LEAF Oxford forum event at Life and Mind Building.

The event will bring together leaders from across the research community in Oxford and beyond to explore the future of sustainable research practices and connect funders, industry partners and researchers driving this change.
